No plug included, but great little keyboard, 13 Sep 2010

Seemed perfect for what we needed (basic composition for GCSE Music) but we don’t know, as plug is not included! Will have to buy 6 C batteries in the meantime, but shame that power adapter not included.

Update: “Borrowed” a plug from another electronic device (requires 9V plug with outer diameter 5.5mm and inner diameter 2.1mm). Works like a charm! Fun sounds and rhythms to play with.

The sound quality is not amazing (sounds quite “tinny”), but keyboard is great value for the price.

This keyboard offers a lot for a modest price, and we ordered it for a grandchild’s birthday. Other reviews said one needed a mains transformer, so we got one of those as well. Initially the keyboard seemed satisfactory, although I contacted the company by email to say that one note tended to sound twice when playing. They replied that if that continued there may be a fault and the keyboard may need to be returned. After about a week, the keyboard failed – no sound at all. We phoned the supplier, Conrad, whose customer services first asked us to post the item back at our own expense, but then, after protest, said they would arrange collection by Parcelforce. The item was not collected on the day promised, but the following day a pre-paid postal returns label was received. I parcelled the keyboard up and took it to the Post Office as requested and was assured the item would be at the depot on the next day. Nearly two weeks after I first reported the fault to Conrad and initiated the return, we had still heard nothing from the company about when the replacement keyboard would be delivered so I phoned the company for a progress report. I was told by the agent that she could give me no information about the replacement because returns are handled by ‘an automated system’ and would take up to three weeks to process. She told me returns go to their depot in Haydock and are then sent to Germany. I was told to ‘be patient’ and that the replacement keyboard would eventually arrive. We are not happy about this – and our grandchild is upset to be without her keyboard. It is very disappointing , and, we feel, pretty poor service. According to their own literature, Conrad is said to be “Europe’s leading specialist mail-order electronics company”. It would appear that the Company is based in Germany – and that all returns have to be handled via an automated service based there. No stock is apparently kept in the UK. Our view is for an item in such a low price-bracket, a replacement for a faulty unit ought to be sent immediately, so we are not very happy.

My daughter uses this product for her music lessons and it is perfect. A power cord was very easy to find for it but not a necessity due to being able to use batteries. Very happy!
