    Chairman Paulo (UK) –
This review is from: MONOTRIBE (Electronics)

Background first, always loved listening to electronica in its many forms and I have occasionally dabbled in making my own amateurish laptop songs through music creation software, using nothing more complicated than Playstation Music 2000, Magix Music Maker and Cakewalk Kinetic 2. Always dreamed of owning a piece of cool musical hardware but having a day job, a family and minimal talent had little use for a studio of expensive equipment. Was considering bidding for an old Groovebox on eBay, either a MC-505 or a RM1x but then saw this beautiful little machine in a magazine. Came easily and quickly from Amazon Marketplace and I instantly fell in love. The Monotribe looks and feels brilliant, sturdy and grownup despite the toy-like size. The step sequencer lets you play like a professional, jamming live and adjusting in real time, not forgetting the ribbon keyboard to record your own melodies. Then there are the many effects and filters to apply using analog switches and knobs – which are great fun. The batteries (included) and the built-in speaker mean that this small station is totally portable, though the Monotribe sounds even more amazing through headphones and plugged-in speakers. However, two unknowns remain for me at the moment, first how to record creations to a PC and secondly, where to buy a 9v adaptor that Korg claim can also be used. Otherwise this is exactly what I wanted a simple but powerful Groovebox – a gorgeous synthesizer, drum machine and sequencer – that provides great enjoyment in my free time and fits easily on a shelf when real life gets in the way. Now like Air, I am also an Electronic Performer.
